چکیده

The majority of the approaches to the automatic recovery of a panoramic image from a set of partial views are suboptimal in the sense that the input images are aligned, or registered, pair by pair, e.g., consecutive frames of a video clip. These approaches lead to propagation errors that may be very severe, particularly when dealing with videos that show the same region at disjoint time intervals. Although some authors have proposed a postprocessing step to reduce the registration errors in these situations, there have not been attempts to compute the optimal solution, i.e., the registrations leading to the panorama that best matches the entire set of partial views. This is our goal. In this paper, we use a generative model for the partial views of the panorama and develop an algorithm to compute in an efficient way the Maximum Likelihood estimate of all the unknowns involved: the parameters describing the alignment of all the images and the panorama itself. Index Terms Image alignment/registration, mosaics, panoramic imaging, featureless methods, Maximum Likelihood. Permission to publish this abstract separately is granted.

Three-Dimensional Ultrasound Mosaicing

The creation of 2D ultrasound mosaics is becoming a common clinical practice with a high clinical value. The next step coming along with the increasing availability of 2D array transducers is the creation of 3D mosaics. In the literature of ultrasound registration, the alignment of multiple images has not yet been addressed. Therefore, we propose registration strategies, which are able to cope ...

Ultrasound Specific Similarity Measures for Three-Dimensional Mosaicing

The introduction of 2D array ultrasound transducers enables the instantaneous acquisition of ultrasound volumes in the clinical practice. The next step coming along is the combination of several scans to create compounded volumes that provide an extended field-of-view, so called mosaics. The correct alignment of multiple images, which is a complex task, forms the basis of mosaicing. Especially ...

Color and texture fusion: application to aerial image segmentation and GIS updating

This paper describes a new algorithm for combining color and texture information for the segmentation of color images. The algorithm uses maximum likelihood classi cation combined with a certainty based fusion criterion. The algorithm was validated using mosaics of real color textures. It was also tested on real outdoor color scenes and aerial images. This algorithm is part of a more complex sy...

Maximum Likelihood Estimation of Parameters in Generalized Functional Linear Model

Sometimes, in practice, data are a function of another variable, which is called functional data. If the scalar response variable is categorical or discrete, and the covariates are functional, then a generalized functional linear model is used to analyze this type of data. In this paper, a truncated generalized functional linear model is studied and a maximum likelihood approach is used to esti...

A comparison of algorithms for maximum likelihood estimation of Spatial GLM models

In spatial generalized linear mixed models, spatial correlation is assumed by adding normal latent variables to the model. In these models because of the non-Gaussian spatial response and the presence of latent variables the likelihood function cannot usually be given in a closed form, thus the maximum likelihood approach is very challenging. The main purpose of this paper is to introduce two n...
